A Day In London

Hello! Sorry for the absence. Life turned into a bit of a roller coaster lately, and well, my little corner of t’Internet had to take a break! Buuuuuut today I’m BACK (back again, gen, gen….) with a megz exciting post. So ma famille et moi went to London the other day for a bit of market shopping and I felt so Pinteresty and cool and it was a beautiful Sunday and LIFE WAS GREAT Y’ALL. Today I’m showing some pics from our day out but I’ve edited them like I would an Instagram photo (follow me here for cute flowers and sunrises). Hope you enjoy!

After trying to work our way round the transport system (and maybe even missing our stop…) we finally got off at Shoreditch High Street station. Ok, so now turn right. Oh. My. They have this massive fruit and veg stall with apples and oranges selling for a pound a bowl (pictured above!). It was incredibly cheap for such good quality ingredients! At the end of the day we popped back and I got a great punnet of dates for only a pound! They are the softest, sweetest dates I’ve ever eaten and so much cheaper than supermarkets!

We then started going down to Columbia Road Market but on the way found some cool tube stations, churches and super cute shops! I LOVE this tomato tin!

COLUMBIA ROAD FLOWER MARKET. Just wow. It was a stunning day and there must have been hundreds of people wading their way through the individual flower stalls. There were gorgeous hydrangeas, beautiful roses and interesting succulents and cacti to choose from! I think my sister and I ended up buying around 15 cacti, they were really well priced!

We then did the oh-so Instagram thing of getting fresh juices! I had orange and it was so refreshing and delicious. Honestly I could live off of fresh juice. SO GOOD. We bought it from this tiny little shop which only one lady could fit in! She also sold these delicious looking cookies, mmm!

And finally we headed down to the Brick Lane markets where there was this vintage camera stand and I saw this Olympus and it instantly remind me of their current PEN  E-PL7! Then there was this fruit stand which sold these bad boys filled to brim with fresh fruit! And only about £2 as well, bargain! I absolutely loved going to London with my family, hope you’ve enjoyed the pics you beautiful people!

4 Places I’d Like To Travel To

Lots of Love Lottie Blog Travel

I love travel soooo much. Especially since getting back from China. I don’t really mind whether it’s a 5* hotel or a mattress on the floor, I just really like experiencing different cultures. Especially the food. Loooots of food. So, this tapestry from CatCoq basically sums up my life! Today I’ve pulled together a list of some of my most-wanted destinations to travel to! And I’m really sorry but I had to go with some of the more well known places, as I couldn’t find many stock photos of the less well known places haha! Enjoy!

LONDON

Considering that I live in England, I don’t visit London as much as I should! There are so many different parts to London, and I really want to explore as many as I can! I mean, I haven’t even been to any of the food markets, someone tell this girl to pull herself together…

PARIS

Come on, how could I not?! My family and I visited this beautiful city last year, but were only there for one whole day and an evening meal. I’m going to be honest though, I think part of the wanderlust is because of Carin Olsen’s Instagram and Blog!

florence-882052_1280

FLORENCE

Ahhh Florence. Can I just move here and eat all the gelato I want? Please? Ta. But seriously, this city is beautiful, food lover’s paradise and slightly warmer than this weird British weather we’re having. What’s not to love?

MELBOURNE

We have friends in Melbourne and it honestly looks like such a fun, relaxed life! I mean, they have a parrot. In their house. And when I think Melbourne I think slightly-better-version-of-Sydney-with-surf-boards-and-smoothies. Ya feel me?

And that’s my very condensed list of place I’d like to travel to! Except I’m missing a little something…does anyone have a spare few thousand to solve my wanderlust?!

Do you fancy any of these places? Tell me YOUR list of dream travel destinations!

Freezer Aisle Macarons?!

Yes, you read that right! Macarons you can buy in the FREEZER AISLE! When I saw these I knew I had to try them out. This is a budget blogger’s dream: the Parisian experience without the price of a plane ticket!

To defrost these bad boys you just place them in the fridge for an hour and then at room temperature for another. And, I have to say, I’m no macaron expert but they taste very good! They’re crisp on the outside, chewy on the inside, with a sweet jam/cream filling! Mmm mm! My favourite flavours were mango, vanilla and raspberry. I didn’t really like the pistachio, but then I’ve never really liked that flavour so can’t comment!

There are 6 in a box, for £3. Which may seem expensive, but if you compare it to a few treats at Laudurée, it’s quite a saving! So the only fault I could possibly find with these macarons is that they take quite a while to defrost (2 hours!) and you could potentially get ‘that’ box. By ‘that’ I mean the one that’s at the front of the shelf which everyone’s picked up, 5 year olds have decided to give it a little shake to see what’s in there etc. And you end up with crushed macarons! But that’s literally all the faults I could think of, so that’s always a good sign! I would highly reccommend these gorgeous little treats, especially a they make great Instagram pics 😉 You can buy the Mag’m Freezer Macarons HERE!

Have you tried these macarons before? Or are you miss fancy pants and can make them your own?

Styling a T-Shirt Dress

Oh, how I wish I’d discovered t-shirt dresses sooner. They’re so comfortable and so easy to wear. I got my striped one from H&M for only £7! Such a bargain! It’s the perfect length to not look like a sleep shirt as well. Today I’ll show you how I style it!

These nautical stripes are so easy to pair with lots of different accessories. For me I find either sandals, Converse or dessert boots are comfy and chic shoe options. For my bag it’s got to be a tan tassel bag (which I wrote about here if you’d like to read about it!) It fits everything I need and isn’t the size of a suitcase! For jewellery I think you’ve either got to go small and dainty or a statement. I wore my Tiffany’s cross. I imagine this pearl pendant would look beautiful with it! And an optional piece is an army coloured jacket tied round your waist, but this evening was actually really warm (a rarity in itself!)

So that’s how I style a t-shirt dress! I will definitely have to buy more of these, can you imagine them in winter with a big parka and long knitted socks? I’M SO EXCITED.

How do you style a t-shirt dress? What’s your favourite place to buy them?

My Favourite Life Hacks Part 1!

Lots of Love Lottie Blog Life Hacks

I know, late again, aren’t I? But come on, these posts are pretty darn useful! Over the years I’ve collected quite a few hacks to make life just slightly more bearable, so here are my favourite picks.

  1. When chopping grapes or tomatoes, you can stack a max of 3 on top of each other and carefully slice through. This saves A LOT of time!
  2. When going for a walk in the rain, put your phone in a zip lock bag to protect it. My mum drowned her phone without realising because her pocket was slightly open so the rain just washed in!
  3. The Works is a brilliant place for cheap craft supplies. I saw a packet of fake leaves (perfect for Autumn!) in there the other day for less than a pound!
  4. When cleaning always leave hoovering til last so you’re not brushing dust onto a clean floor! A simple but sometimes not so obvious hack!
  5. Make your own hot chocolate with just cocoa powder and Stevia/sugar. Here’s the link to my Healthy Gingerbread Hot Chocolate recipe!
  6. Coconut oil is fab for pretty much everything! After showering I apply a tiny bit to the ends of my hair. It’s also great for greasing a baking tin.
  7. Apply your heaviest moisturiser at night as the Skin Cycle says that your skin is driest at 2am, so a rich cream before bed will help combat this.

And I’m sure I have about six million more tips but that’s all that came to my head today! Enjoy!

What are your favourite life hacks? Got any secret ones?;)

Healthy Pasta Salad Lunch

My family are just slightly obsessed with pasta. Hold on, seriously obsessed. It’s definitely one of our favourite foods! But as great as pasta is, it’s not fabulous for you if it’s drenched in carbonara sauce, or with lashings of cheese and red meat! This pasta salad is so simple to make and perfect for taking with you for your lunch, hot or cold. Enjoy!

THE MAGIC INGREDIENTS: serves 1

approx. 75g pasta of your choice (try to get pasta over spaghetti as the ingredients will stick better to the pasta shape)

2-3 tsp red tomato/pepper pesto

12 cherry/plum tomatoes, chopped

Handful of basil

Salt and Pepper

THE MAGIC TECHNIQUE: (pfff…..)

Cook pasta, according to packet instructions until al dente (meaning firm to the bite in Italian) then stir in the pesto and cook for literally a few seconds. You can soften the tomatoes by frying them beforehand if you wish but if you’re not then just chuck them in and give it a good stir for about 2 minutes. Add salt and pepper. Shread in the basil and BOOM. Heaven in a lunch box.

Now I know this isn’t completely healthy. There’s a bit of sugar in the pesto and the carbs aren’t wholemeal but ya know what? Life’s too short to be living on celery.

What’s your favourite lunch to make? Do you like pasta?

Current Favourite Earring Shop: ESSENTIAL

Lots of Love Lottie Blog Essential

Lots of Love Lottie Blog Essential 2

Lots of Love Lottie Blog Essential 3

Essential was my go-to shop when I first had my ears pierced. The main reason being that they were sterling silver, so kept my mum happy! Then I guess I just forgot about the shop, then we went back in a few weeks ago and I’m so glad we did!

I found these adorable little turtle earrings that I’ve literally been wearing non stop since I got them…no joke. They’re even sterling silver which is a big bonus, as I know they won’t infect my ears. And were an absolute bargain at just £5! The shop had so many gorgeous designs, I even saw little rhinos!

I’ll definitely be returning to Essentials for earrings, they’re such good value!

Have you ever bought from Essentials? What’s your favourite earrings shop?

What’s In My Bag

Yes, I’m jumping on the bandwagon. I’m really only doing this post because of this gorgeous new bag I got, how pretty is it? It was only £12 from Sainsbury’s and I believe it is now reduced to just £9! It has two compartments then two little zipper pockets with a tassel on one of them (very Rebecca Minkoff you know *posh laugh*). I can even fit my big camera in it, so taking this bag out for a day trip is perfect!

And that’s what’s in my bag! Phone and earphones, for those times when you can’t bear listening to another 80’s classic on Heart in the car. Pinteresty notebook (post coming soon!) and brightly coloured pen for those times when you have a brilliant idea (or when you’re bored in a restaurant and decide to play Hangman).  Wallet (from TK Maxx) because…well, money, I guess. Glasses case because ain’t nobody got time for scratched bent glasses! SPF Lip Balm for chapped lips, also works on small cuts and moisturising cuticles. Hand sanisitiser because yes I am scared of public toilets.

That’s pretty much the basics in my bag. It varies a lot depending on what I’m doing, but these are my essentials!

What’s your favourite bag? Any essentials that you ALWAYS have around?

Healthy Eating As A Teen

I need to have a little rant. There aren’t many things I rant about, but this topic, I really felt I needed to.

We are told everyday what our life should be like. Whether it be something silly like how our throw cushions should be arranged to something serious like how slim we should be. This generation has a hard time trying to keep up with it all.

Sometimes it’s useful ‘advice’ – like try keeping a water bottle with you at all times, or do an Internet detox. That’s good. I like that advice. But sometimes I read stuff and it makes me SCREAM inside. Like you should be a max of 100 pounds to get a boyfriend. And not eating breakfast/lunch/dinner will make you ‘skinny’ and ‘beautiful’. No, just no.

It’s advice like this that affects teenagers A LOT. Teens are struggling anyway with working out what their future will hold. But whack some more pictures of Photoshopped beach blonde babe models and it doesn’t help, honey, it does not. That’s when eating disorders come into the equation.

Lots of Love Lottie Blog Healthy Eating 1

And it’s because so many teens are getting eating disorders, the minute another teen says “I’ll have the salad” parents, neighbours, friends, family start yelling “Nuh uh, what’s up with you? You don’t need to diet!”. Which is so annoying. Because sometimes all that teen is trying to do it nourish their body, grow stronger physically and mentally and you know what? Try some new food!

I am a pretty healthy girl. I love kale. And hot lemon water. And two ingredient banana pancakes (they taste like Heaven, try them out). And most people know that. But yet whenever I say, “Can I have some more salad/do you mind if we don’t have pizza?” I still FEEL the stares. Now I know these people are just caring and worried but because of this awful ‘advice’ trend going around at the moment people need to be concerned if ya girl just wants a smoothie!

This really annoys me. Because they’re are some very smart teens out there who know what they’re doing. They are HELPING THEMSELVES. And it’s freakin’ awesome. I love it. I love how some of my friends now say they love fruit. They know what Vitamin A is. They know that wholemeal is better.

Lots of Love Lottie Blog Healthy Eating 2

I am very appreciative of what I have, and how lucky I am. But sometimes I wish that there were more of us ‘middle group’ people. And by this I mean we’re not at either end of the spectrum. We’re not starving ourselves, neither are we eating Burger King for dinner errrrrry day.

I feel like I’ve waffled on a bit today. But there were all these thoughts just rattling around in my brain and writing it out seemed like the best option!

I’d love to know YOUR opinion on healthy eating as a teen. Tweet me, email me, or comment!

DIY Fishtail Bracelet

Lots of Love Lottie Blog Fishtail 5

I laaaaarve stacking bracelets in the summer. It’s so golden-Cali-beach-babe it makes me way too excited than I should be. It’s even better when it doesn’t really matter if you lose the bracelets because they were so affordable! Today’s DIY is a fishtail bracelet, and I’m sorta in love with it. Enjoy!

Lots of Love Lottie Blog Fishtail 1

MATERIALS

Embroidery threads – in as many colours as you like (I’m using 4) Mine are from Poundworld and are pretty good quality!

Scissors – well, obvs.

Tape or clip – to hold the bracelet whilst you’re ‘braiding’

HOW TO MAKE THE LOVELINESS

1.Cut all your embroidery threads. The length should be just over half your ‘wingspan’, if ya feel me. Just hold your arm out horizontal to your shoulder , hold the end of of the thread, pull to the center of your chest. That’s half your wingspan. Do double for a bracelet that wraps around twice.

2. Once all your threads are cut, hold them together and fold them in half.

3. Tie a knot at the top.

4. Now onto braiding: separate your threads like shown below. If you have more than maybe 6 colours you can just braid in random threads. The bracelet will still look cool but will be easier to braid.

Lots of Love Lottie Blog Fishtail 3

5. Fold in the outer threads one at a time, just like you would braiding a fishtail on your hair. It will take a little time for the bracelet to start holding by itself but once it does, you can hold the threads in your hands rather than on the table/desk/clipboard.

Lots of Love Lottie Blog Fishtail 3Continue until you’ve reached your desired length (that’s what the fancy DIY bloggers say, right?!) then tie off in a knot.

Lots of Love Lottie Blog Fishtail 4

Lots of Love Lottie Blog Fishtail 6

Et voila! Your beautiful new bracelet is ready to wear! Once you start practising you’ll be whacking these bad boys out like there’s no tomorrow. Oh, the life of a Pinterest obsessed generation, eh?

Have you ever made a bracelet? Let me know! I’d love some new designs!
